Coming Out of the Tomb of Lazarus

Today on our annual Casting Nets Pilgrimage to the Holy Land we visited Bethany.

Bethany could be considered a suburb of Jerusalem. The Gospels share with us that Jesus stayed here often with some friends. So we visited the house of Mary & Martha, as well as the Tomb of Lazarus.

Can you imagine the witness that Lazarus was for Jesus being the promised Messiah, the Son of God?

He was a walking, talking, BREATHING testimony to who Jesus was.

In fact, Lazarus was such a powerful sign for Jesus that the Gospel of John shares this, "So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus" (Jn 12:10,11).

That means that Lazarus was one effective missionary disciple...

How could Lazarus ever grow tired of speaking about Jesus and the gift of new life he was given? When people constantly asked, "Lazarus tell us about your friend Jesus and when you were dead and came back to life?" "No, you guys, I told that story yesterday." ???!!!??? I am confident that never happened!!!
But YOU and I have also been given the gift of life. If we are in the state of Grace, in relationship with Christ, Baptized as a son or daughter of God…we then are a NEW CREATION…we were once dead but are NOW ALIVE.

We ought to be walking, talking, BREATHING testimonies to who Jesus IS RIGHT NOW.

We ought to never tire of speaking about our friend Jesus and what He was accomplished in our lives.

When did Jesus call out your name and command you to come forth? When did Jesus order you to be unbound? What is it like having Jesus over to your house (ie in your life)?

All your answers to those questions….SHARE THEM!Prayer Intentions in the Tomb of Lazarus

Be the living witness…be a Lazarus today!!!
Please know that we prayed for you often. In my Casting Net bag (obnoxiously bright blue cinch bag), I carried all of the petitions that were given to us. Plus the Casting Nets Prayer Journal was in that bag as well. I touched it to each of the Holy Sites and prayed for the powerful, ever surprising Grace of God to be poured upon each petition and soul.
Thank you for all of your prayers for our safe travel.
